another tee offsets the CO2 equivalent of the average annual carbon footprint of one European human. It helps provide sustainable employment for villages in the Biak region of Indonesia. It helps to protect the people of Biak from storm-surges and sea-level rise. These are both linked to the climate crisis. another tee also creates a critical habitat for threatened animal species. We are on the brink of an unprecedented global catastrophe. Our climate is changing faster than any scientist has predicted. The stakes are real and they are high. Scientists are stressing we have just ten years to dramatically reduce the CO2 in our atmosphere. Failing to do this will see us reach an irreversible tipping point in global temperatures.
We need to suck CO2 out of our atmosphere as fast as possible. We don't have time to wait for Governmental intervention. Preaching and punishing isn't the answer either. We need to own this problem as a populace. We need to create accessible, relatable, repeatable ways for normal people to make a difference. A mangrove will sequester a minimum of 308kg of CO2 in its lifetime³. It does that in just 25 years. Land-based trees, however, can take anywhere from 50-300+ years to reach their full carbon-absorbing potential⁶. (A Giant Sequoia can grow for 3000 years. This is great for long-term carbon absorption. But less helpful to humankind right now.)
Blind consumption has led us to where we are today. If we are to change climate change, we need to buy less and buy smarter. People are not going to stop buying clothes. But we can change the clothes they buy, and the impact that has. The average t-shirt has a carbon footprint of 15kg. Not to mention the True Cost⁸ of fast, unsustainable fashion for people, the planet, and everything living on it.
If even 100 people purchased Another Tee "One Year" instead of the average high-street tee, it would be an immediate saving of 1500kg of CO2. It would also result in the planting of 2400 mangroves, absorbing an additional 739,000kg of CO2³. (That's 160 round-trip flights from London to Hong Kong.)
We want to make the idea of an annual CO2 offset and ocean flora restoration tangible and visible. We believe Another Tee is the way to do it. It's a badge, a signifier between humans - "I'm in this fight too."
